Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian fireplace screen is a folding spark guard from 1920, designed in an English country house style. The piece combines copper and iron elements with a fine wire mesh body, finished in a contrasting combination of black and copper tones. Visual details include an arched top rail, a delicate looped carrying handle mounted centrally on top, hinged folding side panels, and flat support feet at the base corners. Measuring 66 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 14 cm deep, it provides a functional barrier for a hearth setting. Practical application suits placing the guard directly onto a fireplace hearth in front of an open fire or wood-burning stove to catch stray sparks. The side panels fold inwards or outwards to adjust the shape around the hearth opening, and the unit folds completely flat for storage when the fireplace is not in active use.

FAQs

A folding mesh spark fire guard serves as a protective barrier positioned in front of an open hearth to prevent sparks and embers from escaping into the room while permitting heat circulation.

Traditional fire guards are manufactured using wrought iron, steel wire mesh, and solid brass or copper trim for structural stability and heat resistance.

Authentic period spark screens feature woven metal mesh, hand-riveted frame construction, rolled metal trim, and natural oxidisation consistent with age and heat exposure.

Place the fire guard directly on the hearth surface in front of an open fire or log burner to add historical texture and functional protection to the room.

Dust the fine mesh regularly using a soft brush attachment or dry cloth, and wipe metal components with a damp cloth without abrasive polishes to preserve original patination.
