The George III period spans the mid-to-late 18th century, characterised by a blend of Palladian, neoclassical, and Chippendale influences, focusing on fine proportions, architectural lines, and quality timber.

These frames were typically crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring traditional joinery, horsehair stuffing, and hand-woven webbing beneath the upholstery.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct hand-cut joints, subtle hand-tooling marks on the timber, genuine oxidisation, and traditional stuffing materials beneath the top layer of fabric.

Pairing a period settee with contemporary lighting and neutral textiles creates a balanced scheme that highlights the historical craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Keep wooden frames conditioned with appropriate wax, protect textiles from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and consult a specialist conservator for traditional reupholstery work.
