The Meiji period spans from 1868 to 1912, marking an era when Japanese metalworkers achieved unprecedented technical mastery in bronze casting and inlay techniques, often catering to international exhibitions.

These vessels are typically crafted from custom bronze alloys, incorporating specialized patination processes and intricate nunome-zogan inlay using precious metals such as gold and silver.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-chiselled surface details, natural patinas consistent with age, and artist signatures or foundry marks often carved or cast into the base.

Placing the vessel on a plain surface such as a mantelpiece or side table allows the metallic tones and fine inlay details to serve as a focal point without visual competition.

Preservation requires maintaining a stable indoor humidity, avoiding chemical cleaners or polishes that strip the historic patina, and gently dusting with a dry microfiber cloth.
