Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mahogany became the predominant timber for high-end British cabinet making from the mid-18th century onwards, prized for its strength, rich colour, and ability to take a fine polish. Double wardrobes evolved from earlier hanging presses and armoires as domestic architecture incorporated dedicated bedroom spaces with built-in or freestanding storage.

Authentic period wardrobes are constructed using solid timber frames with mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like oak or pine for stability. Traditional joinery includes hand-cut dovetails for drawer boxes, mortise and tenon frames, and panelled doors designed to accommodate seasonal wood movement.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural timber ageing, hand-planed surfaces on secondary timbers, and traditional fixings such as hand-forged screws or early brass hardware. Examination of the interior construction often reveals tool marks, handmade dovetailing, and historical patination consistent with age.

A dark wood wardrobe provides a strong architectural focal point that grounds neutral modern colour schemes. Pairing the piece with minimalist lighting and soft textiles balances its heavy visual weight and rich reddish-brown tones.

Maintain stable relative humidity and temperature in the room to prevent timber splitting and veneer lifting. Clean surfaces periodically with a soft, dry cloth and apply traditional beeswax sparingly to nourish the finish without building up residue.
