Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Edwardian pedestal desks emerged during the early 20th century, typically featuring dual pedestals of drawers flanking a central kneehole, evolving from heavier Victorian designs into more balanced, practical forms.

These desks were traditionally constructed from solid timbers such as pine, oak, or mahogany, often combined with brass hardware and occasionally finished with painted surfaces or leather writing inserts.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, original brass or cast-metal hardware, and natural timber ageing consistent with the early 1900s.

Pair the desk with contemporary minimalist seating to create a striking contrast, or position it centrally in a study to highlight its architectural form and contrasting timber top.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or direct sunlight, which can damage the aged paint finish and dry out the wooden top.
