Description

A superb original Art Deco period two seater sofa with some lovely details. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

The quality is amazing, this is extremely comfortable and has a very striking design. The arms are solid mahogany and have inset circular holes that are also lined in mahogany. This took some great skill to make and it has a very unique look.

The condition is superb, we have had the wood completely stripped and re-polished, this has also been fully re-upholstered in our cream cotton fabric with plump, feather filled cushions. We also have the matching pair of armchairs available separately, seen listed under our other items for sale.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco furniture emerged in the interwar period, characterised by streamlined geometric shapes, symmetrical designs, and a blend of traditional craftsmanship with industrial modernity.

Pieces typically utilised robust hardwood frames, exotic veneers such as walnut or mahogany, sprung upholstery, and often incorporated metal or polished wood accents.

Authenticity is identified through traditional joinery methods, period-appropriate hardware, internal padding materials, and hallmarks of craftsmanship consistent with 1920s and 1930s manufacturing techniques.

Position the piece as a focal point within a room featuring neutral walls, metallic accents, and geometric patterns to complement its historical silhouette.

Maintain the upholstery with regular gentle vacuuming and professional cleaning, while keeping wooden elements polished with suitable wax to prevent drying.
