FAQs

Chinese bronze censers were traditionally used in religious rituals, ancestral worship, and scholar studies for burning incense to purify spaces, facilitate meditation, and signal veneration.

These censers were primarily cast from copper alloys such as bronze or brass using the lost-wax casting technique, followed by detailed hand-chasing, carving, and surface patination.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-finishing, natural wear to elevated surfaces, casting seams that have been carefully worked, and characteristic cast or reign marks on the base.

An antique bronze censer functions as a focal sculptural object when placed on a mantelpiece, dark wood sideboard, or within a curated bookcase display alongside natural textures.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth or soft-bristled brush, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners or water that can damage the original patina and oxidisation layers.
