Description

A stunning antique burr walnut dressing table and stool, made in England and dating from the 1920’s.

They are of outstanding quality, really well made and beautifully designed. The dressing table is a great size, it is wide and very impressive, with gorgeous burr walnut grain patterns. It has a beautifully shaped front, sits on cabriole legs with carving at the knees and has intricate carving around the top edge. The mirror is also nicely carved at the top and it is adjustable, the drawers have fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. The matching gondola stool came with this and has the same carving at the knees of its cabriole legs.

We have had all the wood re-polished and the stool has been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. This is in excellent condition throughout.

Burr walnut veneer gained immense popularity during the late 17th century and experienced major revivals during the Victorian and Art Deco periods due to its distinctive, highly figured grain patterns.

These items typically feature thin slices of highly figured burr walnut veneer applied over secondary woods like pine or oak, often incorporating dovetailed drawers and hand-carved details.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetails, the thickness and irregularity of the veneer, hand-beveled mirror glass, and natural ageing signs such as minor shrinkage and oxidisation of hardware.

Integrating an antique vanity into a contemporary bedroom creates visual contrast; balance the ornate wood grain with minimalist lighting and simple, modern decorative accessories.

Preserve walnut furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying and lifting, and clean periodically with a soft cloth and quality beeswax.
