This antique Persian tribal runner rug dates from around 1900 and originates from the Luri tribe, constructed from hand-knotted wool. The piece displays a dark navy indigo blue field populated by small rosette flowers and various tribal motifs, centred around five irregular terracotta red diamond medallions featuring latch-hook designs, rosettes, and diverse tribal devices. Detailed geometric borders frame the composition, complemented by fringed ends at the top and bottom. Visible signs of age include a slightly irregular overall shape, along with slight overall wear paired with a good pile and occasional patches of heavier wear. The item measures 290 cm high, 142 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. It functions effectively in a domestic setting for heavy use, such as an entrance hall within an English country house interior.

Luri rugs are traditional hand-woven textiles created by the nomadic Lur people of western Persia, known for bold geometric patterns, deep colour palettes, and hand-spun wool pile.

Tribal rugs are typically hand-knotted using pure hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and the foundation, coloured with dyes derived from local plants and natural minerals.

Authentic antique examples feature hand-knotted wool construction visible on the reverse, natural colour variation known as abrash, and slight structural irregularities unique to hand loom weaving.

Long tribal runners can be styled in hallways, entryways, or placed alongside a bed to add texture, geometric structure, and historic character to wood or stone flooring.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush, rotate periodically to balance traffic wear, and address liquid spills immediately by blotting with a dry cloth.
