Iron and brass beds gained popularity during the Victorian era as advances in industrial manufacturing allowed for mass production of sanitary, durable metal furniture to replace traditional wooden frames.

These beds typically combine malleable iron for the structural frame, cast iron for decorative junctions and feet, and brass components for decorative finials and top rails.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-poured iron joints, genuine brass fittings rather than plated steel, makers marks or registration numbers, and signs of hand-forging or historic paint layers.

Pairing an industrial or heritage metal frame with crisp, minimalist linens and modern lighting creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional and contemporary aesthetics.

Maintain painted or oxidized finishes by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical solvents. Periodically check and gently tighten joint fixings to ensure structural integrity.
