FAQs

Cold painted bronze refers to bronze sculptures that are painted with a non-heat-resistant oil or enamel paint after the casting process, a technique famously popularized by Viennese foundries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These pieces are typically created using the lost-wax casting method for the bronze base, followed by meticulous hand-painting using natural oil-based pigments applied directly onto the cold metal surface.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic natural wear and patination where the cold paint has chipped or thinned over decades, revealing the dark bronze metal underneath, alongside fine hand-chased details and sometimes foundry marks.

These small sculptures work well as focal points on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or side tables, adding a touch of historical character and texture to contemporary or eclectic spaces.

To preserve the delicate paintwork, keep the items away from direct sunlight and moisture, and dust them gently with a soft, dry brush without using any liquid cleaners or chemical solvents.
