Georgian furniture spans the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by balanced proportions, classical influences, and a transition from sturdy walnut to refined mahogany and decorative painted finishes.

Authentic period pieces typically feature solid timber carcasses such as oak or pine, lined with secondary woods, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, and traditional brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the dovetailing for hand-cut irregularity, checking for hand- forged iron or brass fixings, looking at timber shrinkage, and identifying period-appropriate tool marks.

This piece works well as a grounding focal point in a contemporary bedroom or living space, paired with minimalist modern lighting and neutral walls to highlight its heritage craftsmanship.

Maintain the finish by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuation, dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and refraining from using modern chemical polishes on painted or waxed surfaces.
