A chuval is a large, hand-knotted bag traditionally woven by Turkmen nomads of Central Asia to store household goods and belongings inside a yurt.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from hand-spun sheeps wool with natural vegetable and insect-derived dyes, predominantly featuring deep madder reds.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the handle of the wool, structural characteristics such as asymmetrical knots, natural abrash variations, and traditional guls specific to tribes like the Tekke or Salor.

These pieces function effectively as wall-hanging art or small accent floor coverings, adding texture, rich colour, and historical depth to modern or traditional spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, regular gentle vacuuming with mesh protection, and maintaining stable humidity levels to deter insect damage.
