Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Architectural finials were installed at the apex of roofs, turrets, dormers, and gables during the nineteenth century to crown building structures. Beyond their decorative function, they frequently served to seal roof joints against weather intrusion and draw the eye upward to emphasize architectural height.

Finials from this era were traditionally handcrafted from repousse sheet copper shaped over formers and assembled in sections using soldiered seams or internal wrought iron support rods. This lightweight yet durable construction allowed them to withstand external atmospheric exposure without overloading roof structures.

Authentic period copper features non-uniform verdigris oxidisation, evidence of hand-hammering or seam joining, and localized wear patterns consistent with long-term atmospheric exposure. Reproduction pieces often exhibit uniform chemically induced patination, modern machine seams, or cast construction rather than raised sheet metal.

Architectural finials function as sculptural focal points when placed on sideboards, mantelpieces, or inside open shelving units. Pairing aged metal objects with clean-lined contemporary surfaces or timber cabinetry creates textural contrast and visual interest.

To preserve historic verdigris patina, avoid harsh abrasive cleaners, chemical polishes, or scrubbers. Dust gently with a soft dry brush or cloth, and apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax if stabilization against active corrosion is required for indoor display.
