This fire grate has the well detailed back with a date of 1679. Displaying the word ''pax'' which we suggest was to express a relief that Charles II had returned from France and was now back on the throne. The Cromwellian control was behind and people were looking forward to a time of peace. The actual bars have been replaced and are in great condition and these sit on a pair cast fire dogs. Also included is a cast fender with good detail. This on its own could easily command a price of £150 to £200. The whole, very solid, ensemble is for sale for only £460, The keenest price we can see for the sale of this type of example especially as a fender is alos included.
