William IV rosewood davenport desk

This William IV rosewood davenport desk was made circa 1825.

It is made in the exotic Rosewood that was always made for the more important areas of the home, where a visitor would notice the owner was successful enough to afford such timbers.

The Davenport has the usual 4 graduated drawer formation to the right and the dummy drawers on the left (this is to allow a full-length drawer on the right) above the drawers is a small drawer that swings out and hinges to the Davenports body for pens ink bottles etc.

To each side of the kneehole are turned tapering columns with capitals at the top.

The lid with the leather inset writing surface lifts to reveal the open interior with drawers.
