This Persian Heriz carpet originates from 1910, constructed from wool and cotton with an even low pile, showing slight local wear and one small repaired cut. The hand-knotted piece exhibits a terracotta red field displaying a geometric central navy medallion, ice blue spandrels, angular floral motifs, and a turtle border pattern in navy blue. It measures 299 cm high, 201 cm wide, and 1 cm deep, having undergone a professional deep clean with secured ends and sides. Positioned in an English Country House setting, the carpet suits placement on living room or dining room floors to anchor traditional interiors. The soft mellow colours provide an understated decorative element beneath furniture arrangements in domestic spaces.

FAQs

Heriz carpets originate from Northwest Iran, produced in the Heris region. They are distinguished by geometric patterns, large central medallions, durable construction, and dye palettes typically featuring terracotta red, dark navy blue, and light blue accents.

These carpets are hand-knotted using wool pile woven onto a cotton warp and weft foundation. The mineral content of the local water supply in the Heris region historically contributed to the durability and dye retention of the wool.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical hand-knotted construction, soft natural vegetable dyes showing subtle colour variations (abrash), and characteristic geometric angularity in the floral and medallion motifs rather than smooth curvilinear lines.

A Heriz carpet grounds a living room or dining space by adding warm colours, geometric structure, and historic contrast beneath contemporary minimalist furniture or alongside classical timber joinery.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush, attend to spills immediately using cold water and neutral soap, rotate the carpet annually to balance foot traffic wear, and place a quality rug pad underneath to protect the foundation.
