The quality of design and manufacture, of this pair of marble-topped French walnut bedside cabinets, is unmistakable. Their flowing naturalistic Art Nouveau style particularly appeals. The use of gilt metal mounts in the form of seed pods cleverly interspersed within the delicate carved wooden foliate decoration lifts them above many other bedside cabinets from this period. Our mention of Louis Majorelle is just a little nod to the great designer, as his influence is very apparent - the numbers and letters clearly seen on side of the right-hand drawer are somewhat of a mystery, possibly a stamp indicating their ownership. The original marble tops, with their patchwork of veins and the myriad of delicate colours that crisscross them, have been restored, rather than replaced because they were originally chosen with great care and consideration.
