The William IV period spans from 1830 to 1837, bridging late Regency and early Victorian aesthetics. Ceramics from this era often feature vibrant hand-painted floral sprays, elaborate gilding, and moulded scrollwork, reflecting a transition towards more ornate industrial manufacturing.

These pieces were typically crafted from refined bone china or soft-paste porcelain, incorporating feldspathic glazes. Decoration relied on hand-applied enamel pigments and fire-gilt highlights containing powdered gold.

Authentic pieces often feature impressed or painted pattern numbers, factory marks, or retailer ciphers on the underside. Examination under magnification reveals hand-penciled details and slight kiln imperfections characteristic of nineteenth-century firing techniques.

An antique plate can be displayed using a brass wall hanger or mounted on a dedicated stand within a cabinet or bookshelf. Mixing historical ceramics with minimalist modern furniture adds textural depth and character to a room.

Antique porcelain requires gentle hand washing in lukewarm water using a mild, non-ionic detergent. Never use abrasive sponges, submerge pieces with glued repairs for prolonged periods, or place them in a dishwasher.
