French Bronze Eagle Devouring A Heron By Christophe Fratin

£1,795    $2,406    €2,103
Superb French black patinated bronze sculpture of an Eagle with outstretched wings, devouring a Heron on a rocky outcrop. This is a very rare model by one of the finest animalier sculptors of the 19th century. Incredibly detailed, signed simply Fratin to the base. Mid/Late 19th century. Top quality casting with foundry marks for E de Labroue Gautier et Cie

Excellent condition throughout, no noticeable wear. There are two pegs holding the birds to the base, only one is threaded and the nut is missing, but the whole is perfectly stable and displays really well. The end of a couple of feathers are slightly bent.
