Artsonline has dated this piece to the Georgian era.

Dating to circa 1830 and of outstanding colouration & patination.
The piece is extremely sturdy and it is made from a richly coloured Cuban Red Mahogany.
The piece is entirely oak-lined and the desktop has a crisply carved decorative foliate border with a gadrooned edging.

Having a full-length deep working drawer leading down to a small frieze drawer, and flanked on both sides by 3 deep graduating drawers, with the lockable kneehole cupboard in the centre.

There are 8 original locks, 8 original brass lock escutcheons and 8 quality sold brass drop handles (later replacements)
The piece is signed/stamped twice with the maker's mark, once in the drawer lining in the stencil, and the other in the same drawer with a brass oval plaque.

Offered in an overall good original condition commensurate with age.

S & H Jewell Information:
S and H Jewell were fine quality cabinet makers who were established in 1830. They were a family business who worked from their premises at Little Queen Street, Holborn, in London and then later to Parker Street, LONDON. They are recorded to have sold furniture to the Arts and Crafts home, Standen House, East Grinstead, Sussex and stated on the receipt dated 1st May 1894, states the company was founded in 1830 but there are not many records of their earlier pieces. They also restored early pieces of antiques and resold them in their London shop.
