Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century satinwood kneehole desk features a central recessed space for the legs, flanked by pedestals or banks of drawers. Satinwood was frequently selected for its lustrous golden grain and was commonly decorated with delicate marquetry, hand-painted detailing, or geometric crossbanding.

These desks were typically constructed using a solid timber frame veneered with fine satinwood. Writing surfaces were frequently lined with tool-gilded leather, while drawers featured hand-cut dovetail joints and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, original brass drop handles, and age-related wear on internal drawer runners. The satinwood veneer displays a characteristic warm golden tone, with marquetry inlays fitted flush against the surrounding wood.

Position the desk near natural light to highlight the shimmer of the satinwood grain. Pair it with a modern neutral desk chair or a simple table lamp to create a balanced blend of historical charm and contemporary function.

Dust the woodwork regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the timber. Clean the leather writing surface with a specialized leather conditioner and keep the piece away from direct heat sources.
