FAQs

During the Victorian era, advancements in manufacturing allowed for the mass production of iron and brass beds, which were praised for being hygienic alternatives to wooden frames that harboured pests.

These frames typically combine cast iron components with tubular wrought iron, often featuring decorative brass or iron detailing secured with wedge joints or dovetail fittings.

Authentic pieces often exhibit rough casting textures, hand-finished joints, makers marks or registration numbers, and standard historical sizing which differs from modern mattress dimensions.

An antique metal bed frame pairs effectively with minimalist neutral linens to create contrast, balancing traditional industrial strength with soft, contemporary textiles.

Maintenance involves dusting with a dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can damage painted finishes, and periodically checking structural joints to ensure stability.
