E W Cousins and Son has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The engraved brass shaped escutcheon with lock and key. The interior having baize lined writing area, a central door with herringbone banded edge this flanked by secret pull out pillar fronted drawers. These flanked by 2 pairs of pigeon holes with shaped fronted divides over oak lined concave fronted and herringbone inlaid drawers with brass knob pulls. These flanked by pigeon holes over 2 oak lined stepped concave fronted drawers again with herring bone bandings and brass pulls the side supports shaped. All this around a central well with double moulded frame with herring bone sliding cover. The interior having secret compartment to front with slide out cover. The frieze below the fall having herring bone banded surround flanked by the pull out lopers with brass Bell shaped drop handles. Two short and two long oak lined drawers framed by a double moulding. The drawers having mirror matched veneered fronts with herring bone banded outlines. The brass etched plate drop handles and escutcheons are replacements. The base with moulded edge on shaped bracket feet. The sides having cross banded edges.
