Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian desks from the late nineteenth century often feature carved detailing, multiple storage drawers, and raised decorative superstructures. Pollard oak refers to timber taken from oak trees pruned to encourage dense, swirling grain figures favoured by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Turner of Manchester.

These writing desks were typically constructed using solid timbers such as oak or mahogany, often combined with decorative pollard oak veneers. Writing surfaces were commonly inset with gold-tooled leather skivers, complemented by hand-cast brass handles and dovetailed drawer joints.

Authentic pieces by Thomas Turner of Manchester frequently bear stamped maker marks or engraved lock plates. Examination of dovetailed joints, original brass fitments, and historic pollard oak grain patterns assists in confirming authentic nineteenth-century origin.

A Victorian carved desk functions as a focal point within a study or home office environment. Pairing the warm oak tone with neutral wall paint, brass task lighting, and contemporary seating creates a balanced workspace.

Wooden surfaces require regular dusting with a dry lint-free cloth and periodic application of beeswax polish along the grain. The leather skiver surface should be wiped clean and conditioned with specialist leather cream to prevent drying.
