Description

Size: 8ft 11in x 6ft 1in (272 x 185cm).

Antique Tekke Turkmen main carpet with 5 rows of 14 Tekke guls.

Circa 1900.

The carpet has a soft madder brown / red ground colour, the design is traditional Tekke Turkmen. The border is of the Turkmen octagon and sunburst design. The carpet has highlights in Cochineal dye through out.

The carpet is in excellent condition with even wear with medium pile.

Both ends retain the original large elem panel end finishes.

The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use.

The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use.

Tekke Turkmen carpets are traditional hand-knotted textiles woven by the Tekke tribe of Central Asia, historically renowned for their repetitive geometric octagonal motifs known as gols set against deep red or liver-coloured grounds.

These carpets are traditionally hand-spun using wool for both the pile and the warp and weft foundations, dyed using natural vegetable and mineral dyes.

Authentic antique pieces feature fine asymmetrical knots, dense pile, distinct primary and secondary gol designs, patterned woven end skirts, and subtle colour variations known as abrash from natural dye batches.
