Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian kneehole desk is an 18th-century piece of furniture designed with a flat top surface above a central recessed space for legs, flanked by vertical banks of small drawers. Often featuring a central recessed cupboard, these versatile items were used as compact writing desks or dressing tables in domestic interiors.

18th-century cabinetmakers primarily constructed kneehole desks using solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, frequently incorporating crossbanded borders and decorative veneers. Internal drawer linings were typically made from native softwood or secondary oak, secured with hand-cut dovetail joints and original cast brass handles.

Authentic Georgian kneehole desks exhibit hand-sawn secondary woods, irregular dovetail joints, and hand-forged iron or brass fixings. Look for natural shrinkage marks on solid timber surfaces, early brass swan-neck or batwing escutcheons, and signs of hand-planed finishes on structural underside elements.

Integrate a Georgian kneehole desk into a contemporary scheme by placing it in an entryway, hallway alcove, or bedroom as a compact workspace or dressing table. Balance the warm timber tones with clean-lined modern desk lamps, abstract artwork, or simple contemporary ceramics.

Maintain the finish by applying a quality clear beeswax polish once or twice a year with a soft cotton cloth to protect the timber. Position the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme changes in humidity to prevent wood shrinkage, warping, or veneer lift.
