Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large partner's desk and library table dates from 1920 in the Queen Anne Revival style, made by Whytock and Reid of Edinburgh. The piece is fashioned from warm brown walnut with a rounded rectangular top inset with a gold-tooled green leather writing surface. The structure rests on cabriole legs featuring foliate carved details on the knees in shallow relief and terminates in moulded pad feet, with shaped drawer aprons and wooden drawer handles. A maker's mark is stamped on the top left drawer. The desk measures 77 cm high, 182.5 cm wide, and 106.5 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this partner's desk serves as a commanding centrepiece for a gentleman's library, a spacious home office, or a study. It provides ample workspace with its multiple drawers, accommodating computers, paperwork, and daily study essentials while anchoring a traditional or transitional room layout.

FAQs

A partners desk is a large writing desk designed for two people to work facing each other, featuring drawers or cupboards accessible from both sides.

Traditional partners desks are constructed from fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, frequently featuring gilt-tooled leather writing surfaces.

Authentic pieces often display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original cast brass hardware or hand-carved timber handles, and natural surface patina.

Position the table centrally within a study or home office, pairing it with a tailored leather desk chair and contemporary desk illumination to contrast the historic timber.

Keep the surface away from direct heat sources, clean spills immediately with a soft cloth, and apply specialised leather conditioning wax sparingly.
