Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Austrian settle bench comes from the 1820 period and follows an Austrian folk art style. Made of pine with a dark green painted finish, the timber shows a heavily distressed surface with visible wear and historic weathering across the painted surfaces. Notable details include a spindled backrest featuring turned spindles set within a rectangular frame, splayed legs angled outward beneath the long seat, and flat armrests at each end. Dimensions are 75 cm high, 187 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, with a seat height of 44 cm. Practical for everyday use, this bench provides seating along a hallway, dining table, or living space within a rustic farmhouse interior. The sturdy pine construction and long rectangular proportions make it suitable for placement against a wall or in an entryway where additional seating is needed.

FAQs

A traditional Austrian settle is a timber bench featuring a high backrest, originally crafted in Alpine regions for practical seating in farmhouses and rural dwellings.

These pieces were typically constructed from local softwoods such as pine or fir, assembled using traditional joinery, and decorated with mineral or oil-based paint finishes.

Authentic examples exhibit hand-carved detailing, pegged mortise and tenon joints, natural wear patterns on the seat and footrests, and historic paint layers.

Position the bench in an entryway, hallway, or dining space to introduce warm texture and contrast against modern minimalist architecture and neutral textiles.

Dust gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and periodically apply a clear, natural beeswax polish while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or excessive moisture.
