Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The George I style, spanning from 1714 to 1727, is characterised by a transition from heavy baroque forms to more refined, elegant designs featuring curved lines, cabriole legs, and the prominent use of figured walnut veneers.

These chests typically feature oak carcases overlaid with finely figured walnut veneers, often enhanced with crossbanding and herringbone inlay. Drawers were traditionally constructed using hand-cut dovetails and lined with oak or pine.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction markers such as hand-cut dovetails, original or period brass batwing handles and escutcheons, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and hand-beveled drawer linings.

To incorporate this piece into a contemporary space, pair it with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and modern lighting to highlight the rich grain of the walnut without overwhelming the room.

Maintain antique walnut by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying and cracking. Apply traditional beeswax periodically to nourish the wood and preserve the surface finish.
