Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Arts and Crafts coal bin dates from 1900 and displays the distinctive aesthetic of the period. Formed in warm gold brass, the piece comprises a bulbous bowl with a lift-out lidded insert resting within a secure tripod stand. The smooth, domed removable lid features a decorative cut-out top handle, while three prominent legs include barley twist supports, detailed upper mounts, scroll feet, and normal scuffs and dings commensurate with age and use. Standing at a height of 52 cm with a width and depth of 41 cm, the bin occupies a modest footprint that suits placement directly beside a fireplace hearth. In a modern home, this practical and decorative accessory functions effectively in a traditional gentleman's library or a living room, serving as a functional container for fuel while adding period character to the interior scheme.

FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasised handcrafted construction, honesty of materials, and functional design, often featuring visible rivets, hammered surfaces, and stylized natural or geometric motifs.

Antique coal bins and purdoniums were primarily constructed from brass, copper, or sheet iron, frequently containing removable zinc or iron liners to protect the decorative exterior from heavy fuel.

Authentic Arts and Crafts brassware typically exhibits hand-assembled components, cast or hammered fittings, structural rivets, and age-appropriate oxidisation rather than uniform modern machine finishes.

An antique brass coal bin functions as fireside storage for firewood or kindling, or serves as a decorative planter or container in an entryway.

Maintain antique brass by dusting with a soft cloth and applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the metal without stripping the historical surface patination.
