Isfahan was the capital of Safavid Persia under Shah Abbas who set up court workshops to create carpets which are now considered to be among the greatest carpets ever made. The city became a major carpet weaving centre through the generations, and is still producing carpets of high quality and artistic merit. This carpet lives up to this tradition. Woven around 1920, it has all the hallmarks of a great classic Persian carpet. The weave is fine and the wool is the finest ''Kurk'' or lambswool. The colours are exquisite, rich yet well balanced and harmonious while the design is refined and not over ornate. In very good condition, and professionally cleaned, it is ready for immediate use.
