Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A purdonium is a specialised cabinet or box designed to hold coal or fireside fuel, named after its nineteenth-century inventor, Purdon. During the Arts and Crafts movement, these utility items were crafted as decorative interior pieces featuring hand-hammered metalwork and decorative rivets.

Coal purdoniums were primarily constructed from sheet metals such as copper, brass, and iron, or sheet metal mounted over a sturdy wooden frame. Riveted seams, hammered surface textures, and cast ring handles were standard functional and decorative construction techniques.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-hammered planishing marks, hand-riveted joints, and natural age-related oxidisation. Look for period-correct construction details such as heavy drop ring handles, square or rounded rivet heads, and unpolished interior surfaces showing historical fuel usage.

Positioned beside a fireplace hearth, a copper coal box functions as a container for kindling, logs, or fire irons. It can also serve as an accent storage vessel in a living space or hallway for storing textiles and magazines.

Dust the exterior regularly with a soft dry cloth and avoid chemical polishers that strip away natural patina. Occasional application of microcrystalline wax protects the copper surface against atmospheric moisture and slows further oxidation.
