John William Gilroy (1868 - 1944).

Gilroy was born in Newcastle and painted in oil and watercolour his subjects being landscapes, marine, portraits and genre. Exhibited at the RA, the Bewick Club, Newcastle and the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Lived and worked in Newcastle then Whitley Bay until his death in 1944.
