Chequers Antiques has dated this 19th Century Seascape Painting to the 19th Century.
Condition: Overall very good, the painting is in excellent condition with no damage to it, the varnish is not recent but is still clear, the frame is later but a good quality example and not overwhelming, and overall the painting has a lot of charm and interest for its scale.
Thomas Creswick was born in Sheffield and educated at Hazelwood, Derbyshire.
The following year he submitted two paintings to the Royal Academy, and settled in London by 1830. He became a full member of the Academy in 1850, becoming known for landscapes and marine paintings, painting en plein air as much as he could. His oeuvre is particularly remarked for his skillful rendering of English and Welsh rural scenes, a favourite subject. A prolific artist, he also made book illustrations. He died in Bayswater in 1869, aged 58. His works can be found in numerous British galleries and collections, as well as the Yale Center for British Art.
