Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th-century Georgian kneehole desk is constructed from warm brown mahogany with highly decorative timbers, crossbanding, and oak-lined drawers. The piece stands on bracket feet and incorporates a long upper drawer, six side drawers, and a recessed central cupboard. Each drawer is fitted with a cast brass oyster shell ring pull handle and a keyhole escutcheon, while the top surface displays contrasting grain patterns and detailed wood veneers. The brass hardware, shaped bracket feet, and visible keyhole escutcheons complete the traditional aesthetic. Measuring 76 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, this compact desk serves as a functional workspace or writing table in a gentleman's library, study, or home office. The traditional configuration provides organized storage while maintaining a tidy footprint against a study wall.

FAQs

A Georgian kneehole desk is an 18th-century writing table featuring a flat writing surface, a long top drawer, flanking pedestals with smaller drawers, and a central recessed kneehole area that often houses a small cupboard.

These desks were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or oak primary timbers, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer construction, oak or pine secondary woods, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, irregular hand-planed wood surfaces on back panels, original iron or steel locks, and period-correct brass hardware such as backplate drop handles.

Position the desk against a wall in a study or living area, pairing it with a simple contemporary chair and a modern table lamp to create visual contrast against the dark mahogany timber.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain, keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent timber movement.
