Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

An Edwardian pedestal desk typically features a twin-pedestal structure housing nine drawers surrounding a central kneehole. Crafted during the early twentieth century, these desks frequently draw inspiration from earlier Georgian designs, incorporating rich mahogany veneers and leather writing surfaces.

Edwardian desks commonly utilise solid mahogany and fine mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcases. Construction features hand-cut dovetail joints, brass drop handles or bail handles, and gilt-tooled leather inset panels on the writing surface.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate dovetail joinery inside the drawers, original brass locks or keyholes, and subtle wear consistent with age along the kneehole and plinth base. Edwardian examples often feature slightly lighter proportions and cleaner lines than heavier Victorian precedents.

Position the desk centrally within a home office or study to showcase its three-dimensional form. Pair it with a modern task lamp and a neutral contemporary chair to create a balanced dialogue between historic craftsmanship and modern functionality.

Dust the mahogany surfaces regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly following the wood grain. Clean the leather insert with a specialized leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking, avoiding harsh chemicals or excess moisture.
