This early Georgian 18th-century kneehole desk dates from the George II period around 1730 and is made from burr walnut with oak and brass hardware, presenting a warm brown colour. The piece measures 76.2 cm high, 83.8 cm wide, and 45.7 cm deep. It features a burr walnut top with cross-banding, a moulded edge, a pull-out brushing slide, and a partially concealed top drawer above the central kneehole cupboard. Six pedestal drawers flank the central cupboard, all fitted with feather cross-banding, original brass swan-neck swing handles, and escutcheons. The desk stands on shaped bracket feet and displays natural wood cracking to the veneer on the top surface, minor sympathetic restorations, surface marks, and daylight fading. Originally designed as a compact writing desk for smaller domestic spaces or bedrooms, this piece serves well today as an elegant dressing table or a study centrepiece in a gentleman's library or home office. Its traditional proportions make it suitable for placement against a wall or as a freestanding unit in a reception room. The multiple drawers and central cupboard provide practical enclosed storage for stationery, documents, or personal items, while the pull-out slide extends the usable surface area for writing or laptop use.

Originating in the early 18th century, a kneehole desk features a central recessed cupboard flanked by vertical columns of drawers, designed to accommodate a users knees whilst seated.

These desks were predominantly crafted using solid oak or pine carcasses overlaid with burr walnut veneers, assembled with hand-cut dovetail joints, and fitted with cast brass batwing hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed secondary timbers, hand-cut irregular dovetails, natural shrinkage splits along veneer lines, and original steel lock mechanisms behind brass escutcheons.

A kneehole desk can serve as a focal point in a home office, a hallway console table, or a bedroom vanity desk, balanced alongside contemporary seating and architectural lighting.

Maintain burr walnut surfaces by applying high-grade beeswax twice annually, keeping the wood away from direct heat or sunlight, and maintaining stable ambient humidity to avoid veneer lifting.
