This Victorian Mintons porcelain dessert plate dates from the period 1873 to 1891 and measures 23 cm wide. The circular cabinet plate displays a dark green glaze, extensive gold gilding, and white and pink reserves, complemented by raised red, turquoise and white enamel jewel and pearl decorations. The rim carries fine dentil gilding, while the centre features a white well decorated with an intricate symmetrical gilt sunburst and floral rosette motif. Elaborate raised paste gilding in the form of flower heads, foliage and arabesque scrolls decorates the emerald green ground alongside alternating pink and patterned medallions. Designed for display on a sideboard top, this decorative antique piece integrates into a traditional interior setting as a cabinet plate. The reverse bears a gold Mintons mark and an impressed cypher. The piece shows no cracks, crazing or chips, though three turquoise jewels are missing from one of the rim cartouches.

Victorian jewelled porcelain is fine ceramics decorated with tiny drops of coloured enamel to simulate precious stones such as rubies, pearls, and turquoise. Pioneered by manufacturers like Mintons in the mid-to-late 19th century, this technique combined rich gilding with intricate enamel application to create luxury decorative items for wealthy Victorian households.

These plates were crafted from fine bone china, fired at high temperatures to achieve strength and translucency. Craftsmen applied pure gold leaf or liquid gold for gilding and individually dropped raised enamel enamelling onto the surface before firing a final time to fuse the decorative jewelled dots.

Authentic Mintons pieces typically feature impressed factory marks, printed globe or coronet logos, and year cyphers on the underside. Additionally, true 19th-century jewelled porcelain displays crisp, perfectly aligned raised enamel work and precise gold gilding without modern transfer lines.

Display the plate upright on a brass stand atop a sideboard, mantelpiece, or within a glass-fronted cabinet to capture ambient light. Pairing ornate gilded ceramics with clean, modern backdrop textures such as matte paint or dark timber creates a sophisticated juxtaposition.

Clean gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft artist brush to remove dust from raised enamelling. Avoid water immersion, harsh chemicals, or abrasive pads, as moisture and friction can loosen delicate enamel jewelling and wear down gold gilding.
