Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian pine hanging kitchen plate rack belongs to the English Country style and dates from 1900. The piece has a warm brown colour with visible timber grain, featuring a tiered structure with multiple slatted shelves and shaped side profiles supported by curved side supports. The timber shows scuffs and surface wear along the edges, while exposed metal fixing brackets secure the framework. Measuring 81 cm high, 91.5 cm wide and 51 cm deep, the unit provides open wall storage for culinary items. In a contemporary home, this rack is suited for kitchen walls or pantry spaces to store plates and kitchenware within easy reach.

FAQs

Hanging pine plate racks were originally designed as practical utilitarian fixtures in 18th and 19th-century country kitchens, functioning as open draining and storage units for everyday tableware.

These racks were primarily built using solid pine softwood, constructed with slatted wooden dowels or bars joined via mortise and tenon or simple nail joinery to allow air circulation for drying plates.

Authentic period racks display signs of natural wear from wet crockery, hand-cut timber joinery, square-headed nails, and historic wax or varnish build-up in unexposed crevices.

A pine plate rack can be mounted above a countertop or sink area to display studio pottery, serving platters, or cookbooks, adding architectural texture to contemporary kitchen walls.

Dust the timber regularly with a dry cloth and apply natural beeswax occasionally to protect the wood grain, avoiding excess moisture or chemical cleaners that degrade historic finishes.
