This Edwardian chest of drawers uses quarter-sawn oak, finished in a warm brown colour with a rich golden timber tone and visible medullary ray figures. The piece has a two-over-two drawer layout containing two smaller upper drawers alongside two deeper long drawers beneath, all fitted with spherical turned wooden knob handles and brass keyhole escutcheons on the top row. A moulded top rests above panelled sides, a shaped apron, square legs, and turned front feet. It stands at 78 cm high, 106.5 cm wide, and 46.5 cm deep. Practical for everyday storage, this chest fits well in a bedroom, hallway, or living room to hold clothing, linens, or household items. The sturdy timber construction offers reliable daily use while maintaining a traditional English country house aesthetic suitable for period and contemporary interiors alike.

Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, features lighter proportions, clean lines, and functional forms compared to earlier Victorian styles. Pieces frequently utilised native timbers such as oak and mahogany with understated decorative detailing.

Quarter-sawn oak is produced by sawing a log into four quarters before cutting planks perpendicular to the growth rings. This process reveals medullary ray flecks in the wood grain and enhances structural stability against warping.

Authentic Edwardian pieces typically exhibit hand-cut or early machine-cut dovetail joints, solid timber drawer linings, and original wooden or brass drawer pulls. The presence of keyhole escutcheons and simple molded edges also indicates turn-of-the-century manufacture.

Position the chest against a neutral or dark wall to emphasise the natural wood grain, decorated with contemporary ceramic vessels or lighting. It functions effectively as bedroom storage, a hallway console, or a focal point in a living space.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft cloth to prevent particle build-up. Apply a clear beeswax polish twice a year along the direction of the grain to nourish the timber and safeguard the finish.
