Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A Victorian bow fronted chest of drawers features a gently curved convex front facade designed to maximize internal capacity while softening room angles. Popular throughout the nineteenth century, these pieces typically present a arrangement of two short top drawers set over three long graduated drawers.

These chests were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers applied over pine or oak secondary frames. Standard construction hallmarks include hand-cut dovetail joints, brass keyhole escutcheons, and solid turned wooden handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery on the drawer sides, hand-planed timber backing, and turned handles secured with wooden threads or original fixings. Original brass lock enclosures and escutcheons often show light surface oxidisation consistent with age.

A mahogany chest serves as a grounding foundational piece when paired with neutral paint palettes, modern wall art, or contemporary glass lighting. Positioned in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, it offers substantial storage alongside rich wood texture.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year using a soft lint-free cloth, buffing gently in the direction of the timber grain. Keep the furniture positioned away from direct radiators and prolonged direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and finish fading.
