This Victorian Country preserving pan dates from the nineteenth century, originating in England between 1840 and 1880. Fabricated from heavy-gauge metal in a warm copper colour, the piece takes the form of a wide shallow basin with a smooth polished finish, a rolled rim, and twin cast bell metal carrying handles secured by visible brass rivets on each side. The metal displays natural surface variations and minor signs of handling appropriate to its age and practical heritage. Measuring 11.5 cm in height and 33 cm in width, it is proportioned for display on a kitchen island as rustic farmhouse decor or as a functional storage vessel in a traditional home.

Preserving pans were essential 19th-century kitchen vessels crafted specifically for making jams, jellies, and marmalades. Copper was preferred by cooks due to its rapid heat conductivity, allowing fruit mixtures to boil down quickly while retaining vibrant colour and flavour.

Traditional preserving pans were constructed from heavy-gauge solid copper, often left unlined on the interior to facilitate proper sugar crystallisation. Handles were typically made from cast brass or wrought iron and secured to the main body with heavy copper rivets.

Authentic period pans generally feature heavy hand-riveted handles, thick metal construction, and subtle surface variations from hand-hammering or hand-shaping. Dovetailed seams along the base or side and a rolled rim are also indicators of 19th-century manufacture.

In modern interiors, these pans serve as functional decorative elements in kitchen spaces. They are frequently displayed on open shelving, hung from ceiling pot racks, or placed on a kitchen island or dining table as a centrepiece filled with fresh fruit or greenery.

To maintain the polished exterior, clean with a soft cloth and a specialised copper polish or a natural mixture of lemon juice and salt. Avoid abrasive scourers, thoroughly dry after washing to prevent oxidisation or verdigris, and store in a dry environment.
