A three-door wardrobe by Maple & Co dates to the early 20th-century Art Deco period. Constructed from walnut and wood veneer, the piece has a warm brown finish with quarter-sawn grain patterns. The exterior incorporates geometric stringing, canted upper corners, and oval floral marquetry inlays, complemented by small circular handles and square tapering feet. The interior provides storage compartments, drawers, and a hanging rail behind the three doors. Measuring 186 cm high, 153 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, the wardrobe functions as a bedroom storage unit. It provides practical clothing organization while adding period style to a domestic interior.

FAQs

Art Deco wardrobes, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, feature clean geometric outlines, symmetrical door arrangements, angled upper corners, and figured wood veneers. Craftsmen frequently used decorative inlays, such as marquetry medallions or fine stringing, to contrast with streamlined silhouette shapes.

High-end manufacturers utilized solid hardwood frames overlaid with figured veneers like walnut, mahogany, oak, or burr maple. Fine detail work often incorporated mother-of-pearl, ebony, bone, or contrasting wood species in floral or geometric marquetry patterns.

Authentic pieces exhibit era-specific joinery, original brass or turned wood hardware, and maker stamps or metal badges from recognized cabinetmakers. Examining the reverse panels, internal drawer construction, and grain symmetry of the veneer reveals period craftsmanship.

Place a large walnut wardrobe as a focal architectural piece against a neutral or rich jewel-toned wall. Complement the warm wood tones with tailored contemporary bedding, modern brass lighting fixtures, and minimalist floor coverings to balance the cabinets visual presence.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice a year along the direction of the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, veneer lifting, or finish discolouration.
