This 19th-century French bureau de dame follows the Louis XV Revival style. The piece uses burr walnut timber in a warm amber brown colour with floral marquetry inlay across the fall front, slender cabriole legs, decorative ormolu mounts, and a brass gallery along the top. The sloping fall front includes a keyhole escutcheon, while the cabriole legs sweep downwards with carved mounts at the knees. The dimensions measure 91 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. A desk of this size sits comfortably in a study, library, or drawing room as a traditional writing table or decorative accent piece.

A bureau de dame is a small slant-front writing desk designed specifically for women during the 18th and 19th centuries in France. It typically features compact proportions, delicate curved legs, and specialized compartments for correspondence.

Craftsmen commonly used fruitwoods, walnut, kingwood, and rosewood veneers laid over oak frames. Decoration frequently incorporated floral marquetry inlays, cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts, and pierced brass galleries.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joinery, natural timber grain variations, and cast metal mounts with hand-chased details. Cabriole legs, serpentine outlines, and floral marquetry motifs are signature hallmarks of the style.

Position the piece as an accent desk in a quiet corner, bedroom, or living space to contrast soft modern textiles. Pair it with minimalist lighting or structured artwork to highlight its curved silhouette and detailed woodwork.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent veneer lifting or wood split. Clean gently with a lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax sparingly to maintain the natural timber patina.
