Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian bowfront sideboard comes in a warm brown mahogany timber with figured grain, kingwood crossbanding, and boxwood stringing. The rectangular top sits over a central frieze drawer flanked by two deep cupboards, fitted with octagonal brass handles, keyhole escutcheons, and a decorative key with a tassel hanging from the central lock. The piece is raised on square tapered legs with dark wooden spade feet, showing a shaped apron beneath the central drawer. Measuring 94 cm high, 183 cm wide, and 71 cm deep, the sideboard provides substantial surface and storage space. In a contemporary home, this traditional dining room server sits against a wall in a dining room, living area, or hallway. It functions as a serving surface during meals or a display console for lamps, ceramics, and decorative objects, while the deep side cupboards and central drawer hold table linens, silverware, and everyday items.

FAQs

Originating in late 18th-century Britain, a Georgian bowfront sideboard features a convex curved front, slender tapered legs, and flame mahogany veneering designed to provide dining room storage.

These pieces typically feature solid oak or pine secondary timbers for drawer linings, mahogany primary veneers, boxwood stringing, and cast brass handles.

Authentic examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, period lock mechanisms, irregular timber shrinkage on drawer bottoms, and natural patination around hardware.

Positioning a bowfront sideboard in a contemporary hallway or dining space provides a grounded focal point when balanced with modern artwork or minimal ceramics above.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, applying a high-grade beeswax polish annually, and positioning the timber away from direct heat sources.
