This antique Arts & Crafts copper jug from William Soutter & Sons of Birmingham dates to circa 1900. The vessel combines a hand-hammered planished upper section with a tapering body, a flared circular foot, and an applied pouring spout held together by visible rivets. Three coloured cabochons in red, green and blue are set around the body, complemented by an angular brass-coloured handle attached at the side and lower wall. The copper shows natural dark oxidation and surface wear across its curved surfaces. The jug measures approximately 23 cm tall and 18 cm from the back of the handle to the front of the spout, weighing 672 grams. In a modern home, this piece suits placement on a sideboard top or within a gentleman's library display. It functions as a decorative tabletop container or a standalone decorative object on a display shelf. The copper finish and inset cabochons integrate easily into traditional or period-inspired interiors where historic metalwork serves as focal decor.

Arts and Crafts metalwork from the late 19th and early 20th centuries emphasises traditional hand-craftsmanship, visible joinery, hand-hammered textures, and honest use of base metals such as copper and brass.

These vessels were primarily constructed from hand-hammered sheet copper, frequently incorporating cast brass handles, copper rivets, and decorative embellishments such as enamel or glass cabochons.

Authentic pieces often bear a stamped maker mark on the underside, alongside characteristic turn-of-the-century metalworking features like planished surfaces, riveted collars, and flared bases.

A decorative metal vessel functions well as an accent piece on a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or open shelving, contrasting with modern neutral wall tones and dark wood textures.

Dust gently using a soft dry cloth. Avoid aggressive chemical cleansers or abrasive polishes that strip aged patina, applying a mild metal polish sparingly only when surface restoration is required.
