This mid 18th century Georgian chest of drawers is constructed from mahogany in a rich dark brown timber tone with a crossbanded top. The piece follows a two over three graduated drawer configuration, edged with fine cockbeading and fitted with brass swan-neck handles alongside brass keyhole escutcheons on each drawer front. It stands elevated on bracket feet, showcasing traditional English country house construction with visible timber grain throughout the cabinet surfaces. Measuring 84 cm wide by 49 cm deep and 81 cm high, the chest provides practical storage dimensions suited for placement in a bedroom, hallway, or living area. The sturdy top surface offers additional space for displaying lamps or decorative objects, while the graduated drawers accommodate various clothing items or household linens. The traditional proportion and classic hardware integrate well within period interiors or contemporary spaces seeking historic character and functional storage.

Georgian chests of drawers, produced between 1714 and 1830, are characterised by classical proportions, dense mahogany timber, bracket feet, and cast brass fittings such as swan-neck handles.

These chests were constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak and pine carcases. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joints, oak drawer linings, cockbeaded drawer surrounds, and cast brass hardware.

Authenticity is identified through hand-sawn dovetails showing minor variation, uneven timber shrinkage across drawer bases, natural oxidisation on underside surfaces, and original cast brass fittings displaying hand-finished details.

A Georgian chest functions well in a hallway, living space, or bedroom. Set the warm timber tones against modern neutral paintwork, complemented by contemporary table lamps or minimal ceramic vessels to balance period details with clean lines.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly along the grain once or twice annually. Position the piece away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber movement and veneer separation.
