This Regency period dressing table is fashioned from warm brown mahogany with fine ebony stringing, showing original gilt brass circular handles on cockbeaded drawers. Turned tapered legs stand on brass castors, supporting a rectangular top over a five-drawer configuration arranged with one long central drawer flanked by two smaller drawers on each side. The construction incorporates neat mouldings around each drawer front and delicate turned detail toward the base of the legs. Measuring 107 cm wide, 51 cm deep, and 79 cm high, the table serves well as a compact writing desk or a functional dressing table placed against a bedroom wall or within a study. The traditional proportions allow for easy integration into various interior settings while offering practical surface space and storage.

Regency period furniture, dating from roughly 1811 to 1830, is defined by neoclassical influence, symmetrical forms, and clean lines. Craftsmen favoured dark hardwoods such as mahogany and rosewood, incorporating subtle brass details, turned legs, and balanced drawer arrangements.

Regency dressing tables were predominantly constructed using solid mahogany and fine mahogany veneers over oak or pine drawer linings. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass knobs or ring handles, alongside brass castors mounted to turned timber legs.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, natural oxidation on unexposed timber sections, and original brass fittings with age-appropriate patination. The legs frequently exhibit hand-turned or reeded detailing with fitted brass cup castors.

A Regency dressing table functions well in a modern bedroom as a vanity unit or in a dedicated home office as a compact writing desk. Pairing dark mahogany timber with neutral walls and contemporary lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve timber moisture. Position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or finish fading.
