Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Georgian chest of drawers provides a compact storage solution for a bedroom, hallway or living room. The piece uses warm brown mahogany timber with bookmatched flame mahogany veneer on the front, complemented by brass swan-neck handles, keyhole escutcheons and bracket feet. The design features a crossbanded square edge top positioned above a bank of four graduated drawers. General usage wear is visible across the surfaces alongside a good colour and patination. The chest stands 81 cm high, 83 cm wide and 45 cm deep, offering practical proportions for everyday placement in a home. The drawers operate with dovetailed construction and oak linings, secured with working locks and keys. Solid timber sides and back complete the construction, making it ready for domestic use as a functional antique furnishing.

FAQs

Late Georgian chests of drawers, crafted between roughly 1790 and 1830, are characterised by balanced classical proportions, figured timber veneers, and functional forms such as straight fronts raised on bracket feet.

High-grade mahogany was typically selected for exterior drawer fronts and top panels, while pine or oak served as secondary timber for drawer linings, secured using hand-cut dovetail joinery.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn secondary timber on the back and underside, original cast brass hardware showing natural oxidisation, and slight surface shrinkage consistent with age.

Positioning a compact mahogany chest in an entry hall, living area, or bedroom creates a grounded focal point when contrasted against contemporary artwork and neutral paint tones.

Apply a small quantity of natural beeswax polish annually along the wood grain using a soft cloth, keeping the item away from direct radiators and prolonged sunlight to prevent timber movement.
